Ok Ok I'll Do It...

I have decided to use My Blog to organize, contemplate, and further enhance my study of Bass Guitar.

I've owned a bass for 6 years now, but have only really been interested in it for the past year. I started with printing tabs of Misfits songs and other songs that I enjoyed, but I didn't really get a feel for those songs and I lost interest and stopped. Then I started practicing bass with my dad(he has a drumset and has played all his life) And after weeks of jam sessions where I'd just make sounds and him drumming away, I reached my first step.

I couldn't figure out why what I was playing wasn't sounding right. Either the next note was too high, or it was too low, or it just sounded awkward. So I began researching.

After checking out a few sites on bass instruction I found one I liked. From it I learned the fundamentals of a bass guitar and its purpose in music.

I knew the bass was a support instrument, but not what KIND of support it was supposed to offer. I also learned about basic musical phrases and themes and etc....

The bass was designed around 50 years ago to create balance in the overall music of a song. It gives the song rhythm and timing. It creates harmonies and enhances the other instruments. It is very versatile and really interesting to me.

Adding bass sounds to give songs structure can be either simple or something more complex. Knowing note, keys, scales, etc is the backbone of bass playing and that brings me to my next stop...
